etc.venues is the UK’s leading independent provider of dedicated meeting, training and conference space. The company was established by trainers 16 years ago using their expert knowledge of what makes the perfect venue. The company remains committed to leading the way when it comes to providing award-winning space combining flexible, innovative rooms with state-of-the-art facilities.
The formula is simple – perfect meeting, training and conference rooms that are ‘designed for purpose’ supported by inspiring communal areas. This simplicity is also reflected in the pricing structure where absolutely everything is included in an easy to understand day delegate rate (right through to limitless drinks throughout the day) making the whole buying, event management and budgeting process very transparent and uncomplicated.
The seven strong portfolio (6 in London and 1 in Birmingham) comprises over 140 dedicated training/meeting rooms in a range of sizes that can hold from 2 to 300 delegates. As a specialist city-based venue provider the group’s properties are also easily accessible with close links to a range of public transport.

Meet the team
Head Chef, Dexter House
I got into cooking through my Mother, she was a chef and I loved cooking at home.
I always worked in Pubs from the age of 14 as a Kitchen Porter until one day a chef didn’t turn in. I had been paying close attention to the Starter section so I was dropped in at the deep end and survived; from then on I worked weekends and after school. I really started to feel a love for my new found weekend job!
When I finished school I completed a GNVQ Advanced in Technical and Mechanical Engineering which I passed with flying colours. I wasn’t too sure about Engineering so I decided to try NVQ Level 2 in Catering & Hospitality. I loved every minute of it. When the course came to an end I decided to further my education by travelling to Northern Ireland Hotel & Catering College, Portrush, and N.Ireland.
There I studied NVQ level 3 In Kitchen and Larder and NVQ Level 4, Kitchen And Larder Specialist. I also completed An Assessor award TDLB 32.
During my First Year in Portrush I Won the Cert / Flo Gas All Ireland Mystery Basket Top Table Award, A few Months Later I entered a European Competition in Rotterdam which I came Fifth overall.
After Leaving College I travelled to Work in Norway for 6 Months in Hardangerfjord Hotel in Oystese. When I finished I moved on to work In Queens, New York for 13 Months.
I came back to Ireland for a short stint until I was offered a job with celebrity chef Tony Tobin in his Restaurant Called the Dining Room in Reigate. I spent 3 1/2 years gaining valuable experience and knowledge. I moved on to a Company called The sundial Group where I worked as Sous Chef this was my first training and Conference venue. After 21/2 years I moved on to another venue where I was employed as Sous Chef and I catered for all the weddings, Private Dinners and Parties.
After 3 years, I decided I needed a change, something fresh, funky and new! So here I am at Etc Venues, Dexter House. I have worked for etc for 16 months now. As a Head Chef I really enjoy nurturing and training staff and get great satisfaction from seeing them grow from strength to strength in the kitchen.
etc is a great company to work for, everything is a big team effort; venues don’t work as individual teams but work altogether ‘one team, one vision!’ My team are fantastic, we all work hard and get great results no matter how many hours we need to put in I get 110% from them every day.
Dexter House is a beautiful venue, I love it for its loud colours, wordplay and décor, it is an original and stylish venue. One of the things I love most about Dexter House, is being given the opportunity to showcase the chef’s skills and finesse at our many canapé evenings.
