The introduction of the new Diplomas is a central pillar of the Government’s plans for 14-19 education reform and are being progressively introduced in a variety of subject areas such that by 2013 they replace all existing applied AS and A levels.
Diplomas will be offered as an alternative option to GCSE (both applied and academic), AS and A levels, the International Baccalaureate and apprenticeships. They will be available at levels 1, 2 and 3.
They will offer an alternative route for young people making their qualification choices and as such are intended to widen choice and enrich the curriculum.

Shearings Hotels have launched a brand new recruitment website, to find out more visit http://partners.springboarduk.net/meet-our-partners/hotels/shearings/
Shearings have just purchased three hotels on 4 July to bring the total number in the group to 49. They are The St George in Harrogate, The George at Chollerford (Hexham) and The Eden Arms, Rushyford (near Durham).
In a recent Hospitality Assured assessment, they achieved a score of 73.5% under the Standard for Service and Business Excellence, compared to 72.9% for there last assessment. This is only 0.1% below the highest score for our sector.
Five of the hotels have also recently been assessed for our three-yearly Excellence Through People recognition from the British Hospitality Association. They meet the Code of Good Recruitment Practice, meet all legal requirements, and have retained the Certificate of Best Employment Practice Award - in fact they scored 100% against the previous assessment mark of 98.7%.
Shearings believe there are very few organisations, particularly of this size, that hold all three accreditations, for Investors in People, Excellence Through People and Hospitality Assured.
